Pape Gaye, Founder of Baobab Institute, honored by the West African Academy of Public Health

The Selection Committee of the Academy of Public Health, the flagship body of the West African Institute of Public Health, has awarded the Distinguished Fellowship of the Academy of Public Health (DFASP) to Pape Gaye, founder of the Baobab Institute for Health and Development, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public health.

Abuja Oct 5, 2023 - The Selection Committee of the Academy of Public Health, the flagship body of the West African Institute of Public Health, has awarded the Distinguished Fellowship of the Academy of Public Health (DFASP) to Pape Gaye, founder of the Baobab Institute for Health and Development, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public health.

Page Gaye joins seven other eminent personalities: Pape Amadou Gaye, Leslie Mancuso, Wondimagegnehu Alemu, Joy Phumaphi, Oyewale Tomori, Rose Gana Fomban Leke, Michel Sidibé and Uche Veronica Amazigo, who were also honored for their outstanding achievements in the field of public health.

Pape Amadou Gaye, President Emeritus of IntraHealth, is among the notable recipients of this award. His distinguished career, spanning several decades, has been marked by his unwavering commitment to improving global health outcomes, particularly in underserved regions. His visionary leadership and advocacy efforts have contributed significantly to the advancement of access to healthcare, the development of the healthcare workforce and the quality of healthcare.

The official induction ceremony, scheduled for November 2, 2023, will be an opportunity to celebrate Pape Gaye's outstanding achievements in the company of other renowned laureates.

The Academy of Public Health Distinguished Fellowship (with post-nominal letters “DFAPH”) was established by the West African Academy of Public Health in 2016 as a special award for outstanding leaders who are making an impact in public health, particularly by contributing positively to health systems in Africa and beyond.
