Dr Cheick Oumar Touré

In a few words

Dr Touré is IntraHealth Mali's Country Director and Associate Regional Director for West Africa. He is a global health leader with over 20 years' experience in managing health systems strengthening and service delivery projects funded by USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation and other multilateral and bilateral donors. He is a recognized expert in the development and deployment of clinical, medical and managerial standards in low-resource settings.

Over the course of his career, Dr Touré has provided technical assistance to ministries of health across Africa, including developing an integrated management of childhood illness program in Benin, training in emergency obstetric care in Rwanda, leading a training of trainers in comprehensive sexuality education in Niger, organizing HRH training in Senegal and facilitating consensus workshops for the Partnership Initiative in Nursing Education in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Recently, he has contributed to efforts to customize WHO peak planning tools - including the Adaptt Outbreak Planning Support Tool and the Health Workforce Estimator - for African contexts to forecast COVID19 cases, and to work with the Ministries of Health in Mali and Kenya to apply an adapted version of the WHO WISN method.

He possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, communicating fluently in English and French, and has a proven track record of working with donors, government agencies, international and local NGOs and civil society to deliver context-sensitive and technically sound healthcare interventions.
In addition to a medical degree from the University of Bamako and a diploma in public health from the Nancy School of Public Health, Dr Touré has been a Ford Motor International Fellow with the 92nd Street Y and the Picker Center for Executive Education at Columbia University.
